My mixed media sculptures combine clay, rocks and found objects. They are the culmination of my lifelong love of nature from the microscopic world to the visible world. I find inspiration in the pages of “Art Forms in Nature” by Ernst Haeckel and through many hours combing the southern Maine beaches. I am moved to capture the beauty of these sea treasures.
Ceramic spheres are made using coils or slabs of clay which are then formed around the rocks I collect. They are colored using various combinations of glazes and metallic paints.
My Journey
I came to ceramic sculpture in my mid sixties after a brief introduction in college. As I grow artistically, my work keeps changing. Studying with Cheryl Lichwell from Out of the Ark Studios in Biddeford, Maine has helped me develop a style unique to me. I continue to work in her open studio with several other artists. It is a nurturing environment allowing creativity to thrive. For me, bringing a sense of calm, balance and creation.
